division分譯法

定義：為了使譯文忠實(shí)、易懂，有時(shí)不得不把一個(gè)長(zhǎng)句譯成兩句或更多的句子。Division作為一種翻譯技巧，它除了指句子的分譯外，還包括某些詞語意義的分譯。

1、單詞分譯

例：They, not surprisingly, did not respond at all.

他們根本沒有答案，這是不足為奇的。

2、短語分譯

例：Sometimes, to his delight, he was allowed to take short trips outside the small town.

有時(shí)他還可以離開小鎮(zhèn)到外面走一走，這使他感到很欣喜。

3、關(guān)系從句的分譯

例：I am going to see my grandmother, who was ill in bed, to take her some butter and eggs and a fresh-baked cake that my mother has made for her.

我去看病在床上的祖母,給她帶些奶油、雞蛋和媽媽剛剛烤好的蛋糕。

4、定語從句譯為前置定語

例：But as the song surged up in increasing loudness, even the most timid lost their fear and joined in,and all the things that King had said at the meeting in the ball-room, things that they hadn’t believed or had only half believed, became suddenly and powerfully true.

但是當(dāng)歌聲越來越響的時(shí)候,連那些最膽小的人也沒有什么恐懼了他們也跟著唱起來,金在舞廳里開會(huì)時(shí)所說的一切,那些他們?cè)?jīng)不相信或半信半疑的話,忽然很有力地變成是真的了。

5、關(guān)系從句譯成狀語

例：It\'s in line with the Charter,which recognizes the value of regional efforts to solve problems and settle disputes.

它符合憲章精神,因?yàn)閼椪鲁姓J(rèn)由地區(qū)進(jìn)行排難解紛的作用。

6、關(guān)系從句譯為幾個(gè)等立分句

例：The cook turned pale, and asked the housemaid to shut the door, who asked Brittle, who asked the tinker, who pretended not to hear.

廚子的臉發(fā)起白來,要使喚丫頭把門關(guān)上,丫頭叫布立特爾去,布立特爾叫補(bǔ)鍋匠去,補(bǔ)鍋匠卻裝著沒有聽見。

7、定語從句置于括號(hào)內(nèi)

例：He dropped the mattress against the rough wooden fence which had replaced the iron bars taken up for war efforts, and wiped his brow.

他把褥墊扔下,靠著木欄柵(原來是鐵欄桿,為了支援戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)而換成木頭的了),擦了擦額頭。

8、定語從句譯為幾個(gè)單獨(dú)的句子

例：It(The People\'s Republic of China) must be created by the blood and the work of all of us who believe in the future, who believe in man and his glorious man-made destiny.

偉大的中華人民共和國必須用我們大家的鮮血和工作來締造。我們這些人相信未來,相信人們,相信人們能夠掌握自己的命運(yùn)—光輝燦爛的命運(yùn)。
