When forty winters shall besiege thy brow

And dig deep trenches in thy beauty\'s field,

Thy youth\'s proud livery, so gazed on now,

Will be a tottered weed of small worth held:

Then being asked where all thy beauty lies,

Where all the treasure of thy lusty days,

To say within thine own deep-sunken eyes

Were an all-eating shame and thriftless praise.

How much more prasie deserved thy beauty\'s use

If thou couldst answer, \'This fair child of mine

Shall sum my count and make my old excuse,\'

Proving his beauty by succession thine.

This were to be new made when thou art old

And see thy blood warm when thou feel\'st cold.

Unthrifty loveliness, why dost thou spend

Upon thyself they beauty\'s legacy?

Nature\'s bequest gives nothing but doth lend,

And, being frank, she lends to those are free.

Then, beateous niggard, why dost thou abuse

The bounteous largess given thee to give?

Profitless userer, why dost thou use

So great a sum of sums, yet canst not live?

For, having traffic with thyself alone,

Thou of thyself thy sweet self dost deceive:

Then how, when Nature calls thee to be gone,

What acceptable audit canst thou leave?

Thy unused beauty must be tombed with thee,

Which, usèd, lives th\' executor to be.

細把俊俏浪子問，為何善美耗自身？

造化饋贈非賜予，慷慨出賃慷慨人。

美麗鄙夫為什么，濫用轉(zhuǎn)交之禮品？

無利可圖食利者，為何揮霍不安神？

只和自己做買賣，自欺欺人自歡欣。

Ⅴ

Those hours that with gentle work did frame

The lovely gaze where every eye doth dwell

Will play the tyrants to the very same

And that unfair which fairly doth excel;

For never-resting time leads summer on

To hideous winter and confounds him there,

Sap checked with frost and lusty leaves quite gone,

Beauty o\'ersnowed and bareness everywhere.

Then, were not summer\'s distillation left

A liquid prisoner pent in walls of glass,

Beauty\'s effect with beauty were bereft,

Nor it nor no remembrance what it was:

But flowers distilled, though they with winter meet,

Leese but there snow; their substance still lives sweet.

精雕細刻假借天，雕飾眾目之玉顏。

終會擺出魔王相，傾國傾城不嬋娟。

時光匆匆寒暑往，猙獰冬天施摧殘。

霜林盡染黃葉地，雪飄冰封萬里原。

Is it for fear to wet a widow\'s eye

That thou consum\'st thyself in single life?

Ah, if thou issueless shalt hap to die,

The world will wail thee like a makeless wife;

The world will be thy widow, and still weep

That thou no form of thee hast left behind,

When every private widow well may keep,

By children\'s eyes, her husband\'s shape in mind.

Look what an unthrift in the world doth spend

Shifts but his place, for still the world enjoys it;

But beauty\'s waste hath in the world an end,

And, kept unused, the user so destroys it:

No love toward others in that bosom sits

Than on himself such murd\'rous shame commits

斯人消得獨憔悴，為伊梨花無雨痕？

溘然長逝無后嗣，世界哭若未亡人，

世界嫠婦泣而訴，音容宛在何處尋？

其他遺孀靠兒女，良人形影鎖存心。

錢財易位澤世界，浪子如土揮金銀。

For shame, deny that thou bear\'st love to any

綢繆欠缺對自己，羞說汝愛任何人。
