Total leverage is a financial ratio that measures the amount of debt a company has relative to its assets. It is calculated by dividing the company's total debt by its total assets.

Total Leverage = Total Debt / Total Assets

To calculate total leverage, follow these steps:

1. Determine the company's total debt: This includes all of the company's outstanding debt, including short-term and long-term debt, loans, and other liabilities.

2. Determine the company's total assets: This includes all of the company's assets, including current assets such as cash and inventory, as well as long-term assets such as property, plant, and equipment.

3. Divide the total debt by the total assets: Divide the total debt by the total assets to get the total leverage ratio.

For example, if a company has total debt of $500,000 and total assets of $1,000,000, the total leverage ratio would be:

Total Leverage = $500,000 / $1,000,000 = 0.5 or 50%

This means that the company has a total leverage ratio of 50%, indicating that half of its assets are financed by debt.
